|Ribbon Cutting for Bengal Tech!|
It is official! After a several weeks of anticipation, the new Bengal Tech space is open for business! It was exciting to be a part of the ribbon cutting ceremony and the grand opening celebration recently. Lots of students, families, and local officials came out to Bassett High School to tour the new space. Based on the rave reviews we received from the visitors, I think the new learning space is a hit! I'm looking forward to seeing all of the innovative learning opportunities and projects that our students will be engaged in during the year!
Bengal Tech is the second New Tech Network school in Virginia. As a reminder, Magna Vista's Warrior Tech was the first. The New Tech Network approach is transforming teaching and learning in Henry County. Students who participate in Bengal Tech OR Warrior Tech are a part of a unique high school experience that focuses on 3 main tenants: teaching that engages, technology that enables, and a culture that empowers. By providing relevant project-based learning opportunities, our students are developing college, career, and citizenship-ready skills that will prepare them for their future, no matter what path they choose!
The expansion of New Tech in Henry County is important to our ongoing work torward making learning more engaging and relevant for all of our students. We have been busy incorporating many of the concepts learned through New Tech into our pre-K through 12 curriculum. As a result, all of our students participate in project-based learning and performance tasks regardless of their grade level or program. We have also been busy revamping learning spaces in order to truly support our focus not the 4 C's (critical thinking, creative thinking, collaboration, and communication).
It is a great time to be a student in HCPS! We are looking forward to continuing to make learning more exciting, relevant, and meaningful for all of our students!
